GABA ? / YOUR BRAIN and that last glass of holiday cheer

Have you ever wondered why a few drinks of alcohol tends to make a person more talkative , laugh at almost every thing , seems less inhibited , more obnoxious , irritable and sometimes combative ?

Have you recently thought about GABA( Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid ) ? Probable not, unless you are person like me who continues to be amazed about how our body functions.

( Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid ) is a inhibitory neurotransmitter in our brain that allows us to function
     in the human race.

The alcohol in a glass of wine or can of beer attaches to and partially blocks the GABA receptors in
our brain removing inhibitions and unleashing the talkative loud happy person underlying our
usually quiet self. The person who keeps drinking a few more beers may
become irritable and more aggressive.  Continued drinking to excess may provide the
opportunity to meet someone who is less tolerant of their behavior , a police officer. This
may progress to a " attitude adjustment" and a visit to the local jail.

GABA is just one of the neurotransmitters effected by alcohol.

Have fun , drink in moderation
