Answer to yesterday question .

Table salt and sea salt  have the same basic composition of sodium and chloride. Some people prefer sea salt because of taste. Sea salt is made by the evaporation of sea water which leaves behind trace minerals that contribute to the flavor and color. Table salt is more refined  and free of trace minerals.

Most table salt contains one essential nutrient that is not present in Sea salt.

What is that essential ingredient and why is it important to our health ?

  2. Iodine is the correct answer? Iodine is essential for the production of thyroid hormone by the thyroid gland. Thyroid hormone regulates almost every thing in our body including brain brain. A deficiency of iodine causes enlargement of the thyroid gland and hypothyroidism. Since the addition of iodine to table salt the incidence of goiter( thyroid enlargement) and hypothyroidism has significantly decrease in the U.S. Sea salt does not contain iodine.
    Thanks for you comment.
